How to Get a Referral or Health Summary in Australia

How to get referral or health summary

If you’re interested in becoming a patient at Epsilon Clinics, you are required to provide either a referral from your GP or a health summary so that our team has all the information we need to provide you with the best care possible. These documents give our clinicians important insights into your medical history, current treatments, and overall health needs.

Here’s a clear guide on how to access a referral or health summary in Australia.

What Is a Referral?

A referral is a letter from your GP (general practitioner) that allows you to see a specialist. A referral for alternative medicine is usually required to:

  • Book an appointment with a plant-based medicine specialist
  • Ensure our team is aware of your diagnosis and your medical history
  • Keep your care consistent across different healthcare professionals

How to Get a Referral in Australia

  1. Book an appointment with your GP – Referrals can only be issued by a registered doctor.
  1. Discuss your health concerns – Explain your symptoms or condition so your GP can determine the most suitable specialist.
  1. Request a referral letter – Your GP will either provide you with a referral letter on their own template or you can also provide them with a referral letter from Epsilon Clinics which they can fill out and email it to us or yourself.

Here’s a link to our referral letter template your doctor can fill out.

You or your doctor can email the letter to this email address: patients@epsilonclinics.com.au. Once we receive your letter, we will contact you to book in your complimentary initial consultation with an Epsilon nurse.

What Is a Health Summary?

A health summary is a document from your GP that outlines your medical history. It may include:

  • Current medications
  • Allergies
  • Past medical conditions and treatments
  • Immunisation records
  • Test results or imaging history

A health summary for natural therapy is required so that our team can review your condition and any medications you are on in order to make the best decisions for your wellness journey.

How to Get a Health Summary

  1. Contact your GP clinic – Ask reception for a health summary. In many cases, this can be provided without an appointment. Your GP can either email it to you, and you can send it to patients@epsilonclinics.com.au or they can email it directly to us via: physicians@epsilonclinics.com.au.
  1. Confirm the format – Health summaries can also be printed or uploaded to your My Health Record for you to access.
  1. Allow processing time – Some clinics provide health summaries on the same day, while others may take a few business days.

Here’s a link to our health summary template your doctor can fill out.

Important to note:

  • All referrals and health summaries must include your diagnosis and any medications you have tried in the past or are currently taking.
  • Most referrals and health summaries are valid for 12 months.
