How do I take plant-based medicine?

Medical cannabis can be taken in different ways, depending on your condition, personal response and the advice of your healthcare team.

Oral ingestion (oils, capsules or pastilles):

This method is absorbed more slowly and can last longer in the body. It may take around 90 minutes to notice effects, which can last 4 to 8 hours. Your healthcare team will guide you on an appropriate dose, usually starting small and adjusting gradually.

Inhaled (vapourised flower or concentrate):

This method is absorbed more quickly through the lungs. Effects can be felt within about 10 minutes and typically last 2 to 4 hours. Your healthcare team will advise whether this form is suitable for your needs.

The information provided is general in nature and does not replace medical advice. Treatment suitability will be determined by a healthcare professional in consultation with you, if you have been deemed eligible by the TGA.
